Checkpoint: Overwatch Hero Reworks Live on PTR

Ladies and Gentlemen, the time has come: Hanzo’s dreaded Scatter Arrow ability has been replaced on Overwatch’s PTR servers. Now the bowman’s new ability "Storm Arrows" allows Hanzo to rapidly fire up to 6 arrows at full power but with reduced damage. That is not the only rework he’s been given, however. Sonic Arrow’s cooldown, duration, and radius have all been decreased to 12 seconds, 6 seconds and 7 meters respectively. The added ability "Lunge" gives Hanzo the opportunity to leap horizontally while jumping in the air. His projectile speed has also increased from 85 to 100. The Developer Comments are as follows:

Developer Comments: The goal of these Hanzo changes is to allow him to have new options and maintain his high damage output, while removing the frustration of fighting against the old Scatter Arrow. Hanzo is now much more mobile with his new Lunge ability, and with the combination of the bow projectile speed increase and the new Storm Arrows ability he can now deal his high damage more consistently than ever before.

As someone who sincerely hated being killed by a Scatter Arrow aimed at my feet constantly, I’m quite happy to see these new changes brought about. I think it will force players to actually apply skill when using Hanzo rather than relying on a single ability.

Other heroes including Junkrat, Genji, Tracer, Bridgitte and Lúcio also received some changes on the PTR. I’m looking forward to seeing how these changes will work once they hit the live servers, but as always they are not set in stone and may still require tweaking.
