Konami Unveils its Vision for the Future of Gaming
In light of the stunningly moderate success of Metal Gear Survive’s release week, Konami has already announced plans concerning the future of its other treasured franchises. The decision to rebrand the Metal Gear series as a zombie survival game has been met with acclaim by literally dozens of fans and heads at Konami have listened. Therefore, they intend to reboot several other game series in the same vein as Survive and have already begun development on at least three new titles. Ombra Gaming has been given unprecedented access into the company in order to give our viewers an official sneak peek!
1. Silent Hills: The Trading Card Game
When Konami cancelled Silent Hills back in 2015, many assumed that this was the end for the beloved survival horror franchise. What they could not have imagined at the time was that the real plan all along had been to rebrand the traditional formula of psychological horror into one of strategic card play. This newest entry in the Silent Hill pantheon promises to be its most frightening yet, with players having access to a myriad of grotesque monsters. The suspense of the games creepy atmosphere is replaced by the tension of waiting for your opponent to complete their next move. The stakes of the games couldn’t be higher with the loser doomed to wander the fog blanketed streets of the titular town for eternity. And remember: if you collect all five pieces of Pyramid Head the Repulsive One your victory is automatic!
2. Dance Dance Kontralution
Konami decided to head back to its roots with this particularly entry drawing on two of its most popular arcade games, Dance Dance Revolution and Kontra. In this crossover for the ages the player must blast their way through a fortified base utilizing the power of dance! Groove out to the latest J-Pop songs as you burn aliens to a cinder with your flamethrower. Long combos will grant you weapon power ups which will help to improve your final score. Also if you’re not in the mood for a challenge you can utilize the dance pad (which has been modified to look like a NES controller) to enter the legendary Konami Code and give yourself 30 free lives.
3. Super Castlevania Soccer
Vampire hunter Simon Belmont has faced off against all manner of deadly foes in the past, skeletons, werewolves and even the dreaded vampire lord himself, Dracula! In this fast paced fantasy sports sim you will have access to not only all the characters and monsters of the Castlevania Universe but also real world teams and their rosters as well. Interested to see how Ronaldo and Real Madrid fair against Alucard and his legion of undead? Well Konami has a treat for you! Additionally, each side has access to special powers which can be utilized throughout the game, such as unleashing a horde of ghouls or summoning a 50 foot tall Sepp Blatter to trample the opposing team.
Based on the short time I had with these games I can say with the utmost certainty that we are on the cusp of entering a new Golden Age for Konami, and the video game industry as a whole. Hopefully other publishers will catch on to this marvelous trend and we can see some our other favorite franchises have some new life breathed into them.
